New Delhi, April 29 (IANS) Concisely written books on the Indian Army are always welcome, Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari said here Tuesday while releasing a book on its vision for 2020. “A book on Indian Army is always welcome as it is our army,” he said at a function at his residence where he released the book “Indian Army Vision 2020″, authored by Brig. (retd.) Gurmeet Kanwal.
“This book presents the facts about the Indian Army in a very simple manner. The names of unknown Indian soldiers will always remain in our memory,” Ansari added.
Congratulating the author for his “well published” book, the vice president said that more such works should be authored.
Earlier, former Indian Army chief Gen. V.P. Malik presented an overview of the book, which deals with subjects like the changing nature of warfare, the emerging geo-strategic environment, the existential threat from India’s nuclear armed military adversaries and the danger from terrorism that requires a quantum jump in the army’s operation capabilities.
It advocates that the army must modernise its weapons and equipment and upgrade its combat potential in quantum terms to successfully face the new challenges. It also presents a scholar-warrior’s view of the nation’s defence preparedness, especially that of the army, born of experience, and of a close study of the security environment and how it is changing.
