Varun Gandhi accused of manhandling Congress worker

Lucknow, Aug 2(IANS) A police complaint has been filed against Varun Gandhi, son of Bharatiya Janata Party MP Maneka Gandhi, for allegedly beating up a Congress worker in Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh, police said Saturday. “Varun manhandled one Bharatveer Gangwar after a verbal duel with him over a loan waiver scheme. The incident took place Friday noon in the Johra Kalyanpur village of Pilibhit,” a senior police officer said. Pilibhit is over 300 km from here.
A first information report has been filed against Gandhi on charges of assault, criminal intimidation and tresspassing.
Gandhi is the grandson of former prime minister Indira Gandhi. He and his mother were estranged from the family of Congress president Sonia Gandhi after the death of his father Sanjay Gandhi.
