Uttar Pradesh students to be picked for science programme
December 21st, 2009 - 4:45 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Lucknow, Dec 21 (IANS) The Indian Institute of Information Technology-Allahabad (IIIT-A) will select students from Uttar Pradesh for the national award programme ‘Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research’, an official said Monday.
The Ministry of Science and Technology has entrusted the IIIT-A with the task.
Through its innovative programme, the central government plans to identify one million students from across the country to promote study of science at an early stage, build human resource pool for strengthening and expanding science and technology and research and development base.
“Students from all the boards, studying in Class 6-10, in government or private schools would be eligible for the programme,” IIIT-A director M.D. Tiwari told reporters in Allahabad, some 200 km from Lucknow.
According to officials, those selected for the programme will receive Rs.5,000 to make a project that would be displayed at national-level science exhibitions.
In Uttar Pradesh, the innovative programme will cover as many as 60,000 students.
