Lucknow, Aug 19 (IANS) A special team, consisting of well built and athletic policemen, has been formed in the state capital to check local toughies and eve teasers, officials said Tuesday.Consisting of eight cops and headed by an inspector, all members of the team are reputed sportspersons of power games.

One of the team members is a winner of two gold medals in shot put and discus throw in the international athletics meet in Malaysia. Three other members are state-level weightlifters and two are boxers.

The team has been named ‘Gunda Daman Dal’ and according to Lucknow senior superintendent of police Akhil Kumar, they are capable of taking on a group of miscreants single handedly.

“In a scuffle, I can only take on one person at a time but these men can easily tackle two to three persons at a time,” said Kumar.

The team has been formed to check local level goons and eve teasers and will remain mobile in the city.

“It (team) has been provided with a mobile van and wireless radio sets and will be controlled from my office,” he added.

Senior citizens, women and other residents can call the toll-free No. 1090 round the clock or can also lodge a compliant at the SSP’s office.

“Once we receive a complaint, information will be passed to the team and it will rush to the spot for help,” Kumar said.

“We are confident that once we catch these anti-social elements, they will never commit the same mistake again and will also remember us,” team leader Inspector D.S. Singh told IANS.
