Uttar Pradesh on alert after Delhi blast

Lucknow, May 25 (IANS) The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday sounded a state-wide alert in the wake of the low-intensity blast near the high court in Delhi earlier in the day.

According to an official spokesman, “while all 72 districts have been put on a special alert, security has been beefed up in and around the towns of Ayodhya, Varanasi and Mathura”.

“All district magistrates and superintendents of police have been directed to ensure a round the clock vigil at railway stations, bus stations and other public places where people gather,” he said.

Security in and around all important installations like power houses, key government offices, police and para-military establishments has also been enhanced.

“People were being advised to promptly inform the local police in case they spot any suspicious object lying anywhere”, the spokesman added.

The Uttar Pradesh Police also sent a team of anti-terrorist sleuths to assist the Delhi Police in investigating the blast.

The blast occurred at the parking lot outside the Delhi High Court. According to officials a crude bomb caused the explosion that caused no injury to any one.
