Uttar Pradesh girl student shot dead inside crowded bus
October 26th, 2009 - 9:58 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Oct 26 (IANS) In a daring daylight murder, a girl student of the Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU) was shot dead from point blank range inside a crowded bus in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district, police said Monday.
A youth boarded the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus that was standing at the Shoraf Gate bus stand in Meerut, some 350 km from Lucknow, and shot Shama Khanam, 22, who was sitting next to her mother.
At the time of the incident, nearly 35 to 40 passengers were in the bus, but no one dared to catch the assailant, who easily got down from the bus and escaped.
“Even as we are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the murder, Khanam’s mother has accused Ankit, a batch mate of her daughter, of the killing,” Superintendent of Police (Meerut city) Prabal Pratap Singh told IANS on telephone.
According to police, Khanam’s mother alleged Ankit was forcing her daughter to be friends with him.
