Uttar Pradesh cops suspended for handcuffing children

Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), June 20 (IANS) Two police constables were suspended and their senior officer-in-charge was transferred after two minor boys were taken to a city court here in handcuffs. According to the police, the boys were arrested and charged for theft after being caught trying to enter a house.

“They were caught by locals and handed over to the police,” Kanpur Senior Superintendent of Police A.K. Singh told IANS.

The two constables, Radheyshyam and Jugal Kishore, along with a home guard personnel, handcuffed the minors and took them to the court. There the lawyers noticed the handcuffed minors and created a ruckus.

The station officer of Kalyanpur police station in Kanpur district reached the court and got the handcuffs removed.

“The constables have been suspended and the station officer has been called back to the lines for negligence of duty. We have also written to the commandant of the UP (Uttar Pradesh) Home Guards for action against the third personnel,” Singh said.
