Washington, Dec 9 (Xinhua) The US has called on the Pakistani government to continue cooperation with the international community to thwart possible terror attacks, the White House said Monday.”I think there is no doubt that Pakistan has taken some positive steps,” White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said at the daily press briefing, after a senior commander of the Lashkar-e-Toiba was reportedly arrested by Pakistani troops Sunday.

Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, chief operational commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba, was arrested during a raid conducted by the troops near Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, according to Pakistan’s news networks.

“What’s critically important now is that we continue to work together — the Indians, the Pakistanis, the United States, and our allies — to prevent follow-on attacks after the attacks in Mumbai,” Perino said.

“That’s what we are continuing to focus on,” she added.

The Pakistani government is under pressure from the US and India to take action against Lashkar-e-Toiba. Indian security and intelligence services believe that the group has been involved in the Mumbai attacks, which claimed nearly 180 lives and injured over 300.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice Sunday asked Islamabad to take action against the suspects, saying that there was evidence to suggest that people from Pakistan were involved in the Mumbai attacks.
