Washington, June 3 (Xinhua) The US and Turkey have signed an agreement on civil nuclear technology cooperation, an official of the state department said. On Monday, the two countries concluded a deal that would allow them to exchange nuclear technology, material and reactor equipment, the Associated Press quoted state department spokesman Sean McCormack as reporting Monday.

The deal would also promote nuclear energy development and enhance security, the spokesman noted.

The agreement will be submitted to the US Congress for approval.

Turkey, one of the major US allies in the Middle East, has vowed to develop nuclear energy. It reportedly plans to create three nuclear power plants of 5,000 MW by 2020.
