US Sikh group’s mobile app to combat racial profiling
April 30th, 2012 - 12:23 pm ICT by IANSWashington, April 30 (IANS) The Sikh Coalition, a US based community group, has launched FlyRights, an innovative mobile application that allows users to report instances of airport profiling in real time.
Reports filed through the FlyRights app will be considered official, actionable complaints by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the group said.
“FlyRights creates a novel marriage between technology and civil rights activism. It is the first and only mobile application created to combat racial profiling at airports,” the coalition said.
The application becomes available for download April 30 in the Apple App Store and the Android market.
Asking its supporters to download FlyRights on their phones and start filing reports of unfair treatment at airports, the group said: “Policy will not change unless you make your voice heard.”
“This application is easy to use and will ensure that your voice will officially be heard by the TSA and DHS,” it added.
