US Maryland state’s governor invites Indian investors
December 3rd, 2011 - 11:42 pm ICT by IANSAgra, Dec 3 (IANS) Leading a delegation of officials from the Maryland state government of the US, senior executives from more than 50 leading businesses and academic institutions, Governor Martin O’Malley Saturday told Agra businessmen that India-US relations should now be the defining relations of our time.
Interacting with local business tycoons after the visit to the Taj Mahal, O’Malley said the areas of cooperation between the two countries needed to be extended and the relationship strengthened through business partnerships and collaborations.
The US delegation consists of 100-odd representatives from health-care, biopharmacy, investment management, security, telecommunications equipment and IT sectors.
The governor later told mediapersons that this was the biggest US delegation to visit India.
Ashok Oswal, who hosted the interactive session, told IANS “the purpose of the delegation’s visit was to attract Indian businessmen to invest in Maryland, particularly educational institutions.”
Puran Dawar, a leading shoe exporter, told IANS: “The response from the Uttar Pradesh government has not been as exciting and intense as it should be.”
A delegation member told IANS: “India is home to one of the world’s fastest growing economies and Maryland hopes to build on its strong presence in India and shared strengths in biotechnology, information technology, aerospace and defence.”
