US embassy security beefed up in Delhi
May 2nd, 2011 - 5:23 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 2 (IANS) A high alert has been sounded and security has been tightened around the American embassy in the national capital after Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was shot dead by US forces in a Pakistan city.
“We have put our personnel on full alert and have strengthened the security around the US embassy at Chanakyapuri in south Delhi. The special security measures were put in place soon after US President Barrack Obama announced the killing of Osama bin Laden Monday morning. We are taking the matter very seriously,” a senior police official told IANS Monday.
Senior police officials would be reviewing and personally supervising security arrangements.
Bin Laden was killed early Monday morning by US special forces in a helicopter-borne operation in Abbottabad, 122 km from the Pakistani capital Islamabad.
