New Delhi, April 26 (IANS) The programmes of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) help improve social infrastructure at all levels of society in many Indian states, US Ambassador Timothy J. Roemer said Tuesday.

Roemer visited and interacted with students at a Delhi school and residents in the Sanjay Gandhi Settlement in south Delhi, which is supported by USAID projects.

“The people of the Sanjay Gandhi Settlement are seeing improvements in health and education. The US government funded programmes are making a difference in the lives of the residents,” Roemer said.

The US government’s “Technology Tools for Teaching and Training Programme” covers over 300,000 schools across eight Indian states, and reaches more than 42 million children.

The programme uses interactive radio to help students improve their English language skills.

The ambassador also complimented the work of government programmes already in operation in the settlement.
