UPA government most corrupt: Advani (Lead)

Bhubaneswar, Oct 23 (IANS) The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is the most corrupt in the history of independent India, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani said Sunday.
“I have seen all the past governments but the present one is the most corrupt since independence,” Advani said while addressing a public meeting at the district headquarters town of Bargarh, about 380 kms from here, during the Orissa-leg of his Jan Chetna Yatra.
He said if such a corrupt government is allowed to continue, the image of the country will be tarnished further.
Citing the examples of countries like US, Canada and Australia, he said they have laws to protect whistleblowers.
But instead of people who expose graft, the government is sending them to jail, he said, citing the cash-for-votes scam.
Accusing Congress president Sonia Gandhi of taking all decisions of the government, Advani described Manmohan Singh as an ‘aupcharik’ (figurehead) prime minister.
Highlighting the issue of black money, Advani said an estimated Rs.25 lakh crore of Indian black money is lying in foreign banks and it should be brought back.
The BJP leader also accused the central government of neglecting non-Congress ruled states.
Advani is scheduled to address five public meetings across the state over the next three days as part of his ongoing anti-graft roadshow. He arrived in the state Sunday evening.
