Chennai, Sep 11 (IANS) Unseeded local challenger Sanjana Sharon Paul entered the semifinals after top seed Aishwarya Agarwal conceded the match in the India Cements ITF Junior boys and girls tennis championship here Thursday. Paul was leading 6-4, 3-2 when Aishwarya, ranked 364, pulled out due to cramps. Paul will now meet Adnya Naik, who defeated Nova Patel 6-4, 6-4.
In another quarterfinal, second seed Sharmada Balu beat Vaniya Dangwal 6-1, 6-3. She will clash with unseeded Nimisha Mohan, who knocked out third seed Prerna Bhambri 6-4, 6-3.
In the boys’ section, top seed Lakshit Sood lost to eighth seed Saurabh Singh 6-4, 5-7, 4-6.
In the semi-finals, Saurabh faces Shahbaaz Khan, who beat Vishwajit Tirumurti 6-4 6-0, while A Muddappa takes on S.V.Abhishek .
Muddappa eliminated fifth seed Raman Rishab Dev 6-1, 7-5 and Abhishek overcame Sumeet Shinde 7-5, 6-3.
