University employee, wife murdered in Kanpur campus
July 29th, 2010 - 3:46 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, July 29 (IANS) The bodies of an agricultural university employee and his wife were found Thursday in the campus in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district, police said.
The bodies of Durga Prasad, 55, and his wife Sharda, 50, were found Thursday outside the employees’ quarters situated in the premises of the Chandra Shekhar Azad Agriculture University.
“Prima facie, it appears the couple died of head injuries that were inflicted by a sharp-edged weapon,” Superintendent of Police Mohit Gupta told reporters in Kanpur, some 80 km from here.
“We are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the killings. Teams have been constituted to nab those involved behind the double murder,” he added.
However, police have ruled out the connection of killings with any theft or robbery, as cash and other valuables kept inside the house were found intact.
At the time of the incident, the couple were sleeping outside their house.
