Chandigarh, Aug 5 (IANS) An undertrial was unhurt despite jumping from the third floor of the district court here Tuesday after pushing away the constable who was escorting him. But, he was arrested and produced in the same court with two new charges — attempting to escape and trying to commit suicide, a police official said. Naveen was arrested in a rape and kidnapping case and was lodged in Chandigarh’s high-security Burail jail. He was brought to the district court in Sector 17 for the hearing of the case, the police official said.

After coming out of the court room, he gave a shove to the policeman escorting him and jumped down from the third floor. Yet, he landed safely on the ground and there were no apparent injuries.

He was again quickly arrested, produced in the same court and sent back to jail with additional cases of attempt to run away and an attempt to commit suicide.

“For the last many days, Naveen was not keeping well and was under depression. When he came out of the judge’s room after the hearing, he suddenly pushed the constable away and jumped from the third floor of the building,” Ram Rattan Sharma, investigating officer told IANS.

“He did not try to run away and was immediately arrested again and taken to the General Hospital for X-ray and Computed Tomography (CT) scan. He was normal and has been sent back to the jail,” he said.
