Undertrial dies in Uttar Pradesh prison
October 30th, 2011 - 2:55 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Oct 30 (IANS) An undertrial accused in a rape case died under mysterious died in an Uttar Pradesh prison, police said Sunday.
Shailendra Tiwari, 25, lodged in the Sultanpur district jail, some 150 km from Lucknow, two months ago, was found dead inside his barrack late Saturday.
While jail authorities remained tight-lipped, Tiwari’s family alleged he died of atrocities committed by jail officials and demanded stern action against them.
“The district administration has taken a strict cognizance of the death and ordered a probe. His body has been sent for autopsy,” said police inspector Ashok Shukla.
Tiwari was a native of Sonara village in Sultanpur.
