ULFA rebels surrender in Meghalaya
May 5th, 2011 - 11:06 pm ICT by IANSShillong, May 5 (IANS) Three rebels of the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) surrendered before the authorities in Meghalaya, police said Thursday.
Pallab Barua, Niranjan Pradhani and Sarbojit Konwar surrendered Wednesday at Rongrengre area in Meghalaya’s Garo Hills region, a police official told IANS.
The rebels deposited two AK-81 rifles, two M-20 pistols, 294 rounds of AK47 and 12 rounds of M-20 ammunitions.
The trio were involved in a gun battle with the state police commandos Jan 26, when their hideout near Rongrekgre in East Garo Hills district was raided.
Meghalaya Police have handed the rebels over to their Assam counterparts for further investigations.
