ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa, deputy sent to prison
December 26th, 2009 - 6:25 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Guwahati, Dec 26 (IANS) Outlawed outfit United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA)’s chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa and deputy commander-in-chief Raju Baruah were Saturday sent to prison by a local court after 22 days in police custody.
“There were no fresh cases slapped on Rajkhowa and Baruah and the prosecution also did not seek further police custody and hence the court sent both of them to judicial remand,” Bijon Mahajan, legal counsel of the two ULFA leaders, told IANS.
The duo was produced Saturday at a camp court inside the Guwahati Central Jail premises for security reasons.
The two top ULFA leaders are being lodged at the Guwahati Central Jail. They were in police custody since their arrest on Dec 5.
Police claimed the two ULFA leaders with their families, Rajkhowa’s personal security guard Raja Bora, and wife of ULFA ‘foreign secretary’ Sasha Choudhury surrendered before Indian authorities at Dawki in Meghalaya and were later arrested.
The ULFA chairman later denied he surrendered and said they were being arrested.
“The two leaders under normal procedure would have to be produced before the chief judicial magistrate’s court for hearing,” Mahajan said.
