Shillong, Jan 4 (IANS) Two separatist rebels of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) were Wednesday arrested from western Meghalaya bordering Bangladesh, a Border Security Force (BSF) officer said.

Lt. Pushma Das alias Tupan Patwari and Pulas Barman, one of the senior members of KLO, was arrested from Chandaboi area in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills district, BSF spokesman Ravi Gandhi said.

The troopers seized three live rounds of 7.62 ammunition and a mobile set from Das’ possession soon after he had sneaked inside India from Bangladesh, he added.

Quoting Das’ statement, Gandhi said the KLO rebel had joined the outfit in 1997 and underwent guerrilla warfare training at the ULFA’s training camp inside Bhutan’s Kali Khola area.

The KLO is a rebel group fighting to carve out a separate Kamtapur state comprising six districts of Cooch Behar, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, North and South Dinajpur and Malda in West Bengal and four contiguous districts of Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Dhubri and Goalpara in Assam.

BSF troopers arrested a Bangladeshi linkman of the outlawed ULFA from Gopinathkilla area in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills district bordering Bangladesh.

Philip A. Sangma, the Bangladeshi national hailing Kumar Hati village under Sherpur district, was arrested Wednesday morning with fake Indian currency notes amounting to Rs. 3,000, Gandhi said.

Meghalaya shares a 443-km border with Bangladesh, part of which is porous, hilly, unfenced and prone to frequent infiltration.
