Ukraine court refuses to free ex-PM
August 11th, 2011 - 8:08 am ICT by IANSKiev, Aug 11 (IANS/RIA Novosti) A higher court in Ukraine’s capital has refused to annul a decision to take country’s former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko into custody.
Tymoshenko, 50, is on trial for alleged abuse of office in striking gas deals with Russia in 2009.
Last Friday, she was detained on the prosecutors’ request.
She says the charges against her are politically motivated.
