UAE firm donates dates to famine-hit Somalia
August 24th, 2011 - 12:23 am ICT by IANSAl Ain (UAE), Aug 23 (IANS/WAM) A UAE food company has donated 40 tonnes of dates to the famine victims of Somalia, it was announced Tuesday.
Musallam Obaid Al Ameri, general manager of Al Foah company, said: “The dates were bought from Al Foah Dates factories by funds collected from the employees during the charity initiative.
“The voluntary spirit demonstrated by the employees stands testimony to the entrenched values of human solidarity, charity and giving for assisting victims of drought in the Horn of Africa.”
Millions of people in Somalia face starvation and death as the region faces the worst drought in over half a century.
