UAE films honoured at New York festival

New York, April 16 (IANS/WAM) Short films and documentaries produced in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been honoured at the New York Festival’s International Television and Film Awards.

The UAE harvested four awards at the festival for films produced for the UAE pavilion at the World Expo 2010 held in Shanghai.

The film “In the Blink of an Eye” tells the story of the UAE’s dramatic development over the past three generations, while the film “Dream Journey” combines actual settings with animation, and depicts a young Emirati boy and a Chinese girl exploring the UAE.

Both films were shot in the UAE and were especially produced for the Shanghai expo.

The awards recognise the world’s best work in news, sports, documentary, information and entertainment programmes as well music videos, infomercials and promotion spots. Now entering its 54th year, the total number of entries represented over 35 countries.

“Dream Journey” won gold medals in the Business Theatre and Public Relations categories, while “In the Blink of an Eye” won gold for Cinematography in the Craft/Technique Education/Information section and a bronze medal in the Business Theatre Group.

With entries from over 30 countries, the films faced strong competition against those made by major production houses, including BBC, CNN, Walt Disney, Turner Broadcasting, CTV, Canadian Broadcasting and others.

The awards were collected by Omar Alshamsi, deputy chief of mission at the embassy of the UAE in US.
