UAE bank launches thumb verification system
September 13th, 2011 - 12:20 am ICT by IANSAbu Dhabi, Sep 12 (IANS/WAM) The Al Hilal Bank in Abu Dhabi has become the first in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to introduce the thumb verification system for its customers.
The technology would help speed up daily banking transactions and reduce the customers’ waiting time. This would also improve customer security, the bank said.
The thumb verification technology uses biometric information stored in a centralised, maximum-security database. The scanned thumb-prints of customers will be used to verify customer identity for various transactions.
With the system in place, customers would no longer need to show any identity proof when processing any transaction, reducing waiting time.
The thumb verification facility, however, has not been made mandatory and customers may still conduct bank transactions using the conventional procedures.
