Abu Dhabi, June 9 (IANS/WAM) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is actively enforcing UN Security Council resolutions 1970 and 1973 on Libya, Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan said Thursday.

In a keynote address to the third meeting of the Libya Contact Group hosted by the UAE Thursday, Abdullah stressed on the importance of Libya’s territorial integrity, underscoring that the Arab role in supporting the country’s people remains important and central.

“We are seeking to keep that role prominent and reflective of the fraternal solidarity with our brethren in Libya,” Abdullah told the gathering of over 20 foreign ministers and representatives of regional and international organizations.

UN Security Council Resolution 1970, passed in February, imposed sanctions on Gaddafi and his family, while Resolution 1973 authorised a no-fly zone over Libya and the use of “all necessary measures” to protect civilians.
