Two women rafters drown in Kashmir
June 25th, 2011 - 3:38 pm ICT by IANSSrinagar, June 25 (IANS) Two women drowned and six others were rescued after a rafting accident Saturday morning in Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
The accident happened in north Kashmir’s Sonamarg tourist resort, a senior police officer told IANS.
The eight women were from a local private school and went rafting in the fast moving Sindh stream in Sonamarg Saturday morning.
Their boat hit a huge stone in the stream and capsized, he said.
The two women who drowned belonged to north Kashmir’s Kangan area in Ganderbal district, he added.
Fast stream rafting is part of adventure tourism in the state as tourists and locals go rafting every day in Sonamarg hill station.
