Two women held with cannabis worth Rs.3 crore
February 24th, 2011 - 9:06 pm ICT by IANSKushinagar (Uttar Pradesh), Feb 24 (IANS) Two women drug peddlers, who operated in various states of the country, were arrested in this Uttar Pradesh district Thursday with cannabis worth around Rs.3 crore, police said.The two women were held in Sevrahi area, following a joint operation by the special operation group (SOG) and the district police.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the women, aged 24 and 47, received the illegal consignment from Bihar and were supposed to supply it to some of their clients here,” Additional Superintendent of Police Dilip Kumar told reporters in Kushinagar, some 300-km from Lucknow.
According to police, the two used to supply drugs to various states, including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi.
Sources in police said that initial enquiry also suggests that the two had links with a Nepal-based racket involved in illegal trade of the drugs.
The two women hail from Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district.
