Two ULFA rebels killed by their own bomb
November 21st, 2011 - 1:53 pm ICT by IANSGuwahati, Nov 21 (IANS) Two members of the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) were killed Monday in Assam when the bomb they were trying to plant on a railway track exploded, police said.
A police spokesperson said the two bombers of ULFA were killed near Sonari in eastern Assam’s Sivasagar district, about 370 km from here, while they were trying to plant an improvised explosive device on a railway track.
The incident took place early Monday and the target was probably the Brahmaputra Mail that was to cross the area around that time.
“Probably something went wrong and the bomb exploded before they could plant it on the rail track. The target was possibly the Brahmaputra Mail,” a senior police official said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the two ULFA rebels were not trained in dealing with explosives and hence failed to execute the task assigned to them, police said.
