Two top Maoist cadres, including woman, arrested
November 10th, 2010 - 3:47 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, Nov 10 (IANS) Two top Maoist cadres, including a woman, who are accused in a series of crimes in Orissa and Andhra Pradesh and carry a reward of Rs.1 lakh each, have been arrested, police said Wednesday.
The rebels were caught in Narayan Patna area of Orissa’s Koraput district, some 500 km from here, by police and central paramilitary forces during a combing operation Tuesday night, Superintendent of Police Anup Kumar Sahu told IANS.
Arjun alias Sukhdev and Sunita alias Bisakha were members of the Communist Party of India-Maoist and had been involved in party activities for six-seven years, police say. They hail from Visakhapatnam area of Andhra Pradesh, he said.
They were carrying a reward of Rs.1 lakh each in Andhra Pradesh, he said adding that both were involved in several crimes in Orissa, including the Nayagarh attack in 2008 and at the Nalco bauxite mine in Koraput in 2009.
Sahu said the arrested rebels were involved in several cases of murder, attacks on police stations and abductions.
“It is a big catch for police in Andhra Pradesh and Orissa,” top police official Soumendra Priyadarshi told IANS.
