Two thirsty girls drowned

Bhubaneswar, March 18 (IANS) Two young sisters slipped into a well in an Orissa village and died, one while trying to drink water from it and another while attempting to rescue her drowning sibling. Pallabi Meher, 9, and Payal, 5, went to collect Mahua flowers on the outskirts of Machiuda village in Jharsuguda, nearly 300 km from here, Monday when they felt thirsty, the police said.

Payal slipped into the well while trying to drink water, the police said. Pallabi tried to rescue her but also slipped into the well. Both were drowned. Villagers tried to rescue them but it was too late.
