Two students killed as water tank bursts
March 31st, 2011 - 11:26 pm ICT by IANSSitapur (Uttar Pradesh), March 31 (IANS) Two girl students were killed when the water tank in their school in this Uttar Pradesh district burst Thursday, police said.
Anjita Yadav and Mamta Yadav were students of Class 2 at the Prince Cottage Public School in Ahrauli town.
“The two students were drinking water from the cemented tank which suddenly burst. The duo were buried under the debris and died,” Police Inspector S.N. Gupta told reporters in Sitapur, some 80 km from Lucknow.
“No other student was injured in the accident,” he said.
Police have initiated an enquiry against the school administration following the incident.
“We will probe whether sub standard construction material was used or there was some other reason. Investigations are on,” said Gupta.
