Two steel traders shot dead in south Mumbai

Mumbai, July 6 (IANS) Two steel traders, both brothers, were shot dead by three unidentified men in the metal market in congested south Mumbai here Wednesday evening, police said.

The shooting occurred around 6.45 p.m. when the steel market was preparing to shut after the day’s business.

Three men suddenly barged into Bharat Steel Yard in Khetwadi 7th Lane and fired at manager Lalchand Bishnoi and his elder brother Ratnaram.

Within minutes, the assailants escaped from the scene of the crime, as panic gripped the steel market and traders downed shutters and left in a hurry.

“While Lalchand (35) was declared dead on admission to the Harkisondas Hospital, Ratnaram also succumbed a short while later. Both have sustained multiple bullet injuries,” local legislator M.P. Lodha told IANS from the scene of the crime.

Mumbai’s metal market falls in his Malabar Hill assembly constituency, represented by Lodha who belongs to the BJP.

Top police officials and sleuths from the V.P. Road Police Station, which is investigating the matter, and Lodha, rushed to the scene of the crime.

The police are probing the motives behind the double killing and a hunt is on to trace the culprits.

Police have erected road blocks and alerted check posts at all exit points from the city in an effort to nab the assailants.
