Two slum-dwellers killed in fire
April 21st, 2011 - 11:49 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 21 (IANS) Two elderly people were killed in a fire that broke out in a slum area of east Delhi, police said Thursday.
The incident took place at Ghazipur area Wednesday night.
“At around 11 p.m., a fire broke out in hutments located near Ghadoli Dairy at Mayur Vihar phase-III in Ghazipur area. Locals informed police and fire department. Six fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire was extinguished in an hour,” a senior fire official said.
“Garib Das, 60, and Sumari Devi, 80, who suffered burn injuries, were rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared them dead,” said a police officer
“The cause behind the fire has not been ascertained so far. It is believed that it was caused due to a an electrical short-circuit,” the officer said.
