Two policemen suspended for extorting money
April 29th, 2011 - 10:30 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 29 (IANS) Two Delhi Police traffic constables were on the run Friday after being suspended for extorting Rs.5,000 from a truck driver and for being drunk in uniform, police said Friday.
The men escaped from Palam area in south Delhi Wednesday night following a commotion, Joint Commissioner of Police Satyendra Garg said. They were identified as Pramod Singh and Kaptan Singh.
“Despite our best efforts to weed out corruption in traffic police, serious criminal misconduct were done by the two policemen,” Garg said.
He said they snatched the money from the truck driver after thrashing him but fled leaving their motorcycle behind when police was alerted.
