Two persons drown in Ichamati river
October 7th, 2011 - 8:45 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Oct 7 (IANS) Two middle-aged persons drowned in the Ichamati river in North 24 Paraganas district Friday during the Durga idol immersion ceremony, police said.
“Two persons have drowned in the Ichamati river during the Durga idol immersion ceremony. We have recovered one body till now,” said S.N. Gupta, DIG, presidency range.
Five days of frenzied puja festivities came to an end in West Bengal as idols of Goddess Durga and her children were immersed in the Ganga river and other water bodies across the state on Bijoya Dasami (Thursday), marking an end to the celebrations.
Many community pujas decided to perform the immersion ceremony on Friday
