New Delhi, Aug 4 (IANS) Two Nigerian nationals have been arrested here for duping a city-based businessman of Rs.4.6 million, the police said Monday. Ndubusi Ahiabuike alias Edward, 33, and Godswill Udochukwa alias William, 29, were arrested from the Priya cinema complex in south Delhi Sunday for cheating Ajay Thakran, deputy commissioner of police (Crime Branch) Neeraj Thakur said.

The police said an electronic safe containing $1.6 million “black US dollars”, one bottle of some chemical, two laptop computers and incriminating documents were recovered from them.

Thakran complained to police that the two Nigerians cheated him of Rs.4.6 million. He said William came to his office on the pretext of investing a large amount in property and asked him to help in making investments.

A few days later, William gave Ajay an electronic iron safe having black bundles, which he claimed were “black dollars”. When Thakran enquired about the colour of the currency notes, Williams told him that it was so due to safety considerations in African countries and to protect it against robbery. William also gave him a bottle of some chemical.

“Then he enacted a drama and deliberately spilled the chemical and applied some of the remaining chemical on a few ‘black dollars’, which removed the black coating and revealed the genuine US currency notes. William added that without the chemical, the black dollars are nothing but junk,” Thakur said.

“He then asked Thakran to arrange for large sums of money for importing the chemical. The complainant was thus lured into paying him lakhs of rupees for procuring the chemical. William repeatedly took money from Thakran on one pretext or the other thereafter,” he added.

William introduced Thakran to his friend Edward, who also started taking money from him on false promises.
