Two Nigerians among three held for drug trafficking

New Delhi, March 10 (IANS) Three people including two Nigerians have been arrested in three separate cases of drug trafficking in the capital this week, police said Thursday.

Emmanuel Okafor, 26, was arrested March 7 near Mandi House metro station in central Delhi, and 13 gm of cocaine was recovered from his possession, said police.

“He had come to India about two years ago on a business visa and stayed for one year in Tamil Nadu. Few moths later he met a fellow Nigerian when he shifted base to Delhi and started supplying cocaine,” a police official said.

In another incident, a 22-year-old Nigerian Victor Chijioke was caught March 8 with 19 gm of cocaine from India Gate in the heart of the city, police said.

According to police, he was also introduced to the crime by a fellow Nigerian whom he met last year.

In the third incident, Vivek Kumar was arrested March 5 with six kg of charas (hashish) from Gandhinagar area in east Delhi. Well-educated, he was lured by the easy money of the trade, police said.

“He hailed from Bihar and had come to Delhi two years ago. He had worked with a share broker and at a chemist shop earlier but wanted to earn a quick buck so began drug trafficking. He was procuring charas from Nepal,” a police official said.
