Raipur, Aug 9 (IANS) Two more blackbucks brought to the zoo here from Delhi have died, and zoo officials say the merciless heat is to blame.

Dozens of villagers living close to the Nandan Van Zoo surrounded it Tuesday as news of the deaths spread. They were found dead at the zoo late Monday.

Two blackbucks had died last month too.

R.C. Dugga, the zoo chief, told reporters that the 21 blackbucks brought from Delhi July 26 “seem to be finding hard to sustain in the changed climate here.

“After over a thousand km travel in a vehicle, the 21 blackbucks are still feeling exhausted,” Dugga said.

The climate is adding to their problem, he said.

According to one account, the blackbucks came to Raipur after the Delhi zoo was gifted pythons in return.
