Two Maoists killed in gun battle
March 16th, 2011 - 9:33 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, March 16 (IANS) Two Maoists were killed Wednesday in a gunfight with police in a forested area of Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, police said.
The battle took place in Bhairamgarh, some 450 km south of here.
“It was a brief but fierce gun battle between the Maoists and police. Two rebels were killed. Their bodies have been recovered. Some arms were found at the spot,” a source at the police headquarters told IANS.
He said that no policemen suffered any injury.
Chhattisgarh’s mineral-rich Bastar region is a hotbed of Maoists.
