Kolkata, March 15 (IANS) Two Maoists, including a woman squad member, were arrested in West Bengal Tuesday, police said. They were presented before a local court and remanded to police custody for seven days.

“Acting on tip-off, we conducted raids and arrested Rajesh Murmu alias Buru from Koima village in Bankura district, while Saraswati Mandi was arrested from Chirudi village in Purulia district,” said Bankura Police Superintendent Pranav Kumar.

“Both were wanted in several cases, including murder, sedition and damaging government property,” said Kumar.

Rajesh, who hails from Barigeria near Goaltore in West Midnapore, is believed to be a close associate of Bikash, state committee member of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist).

He was assigned to lead the Goaltore squad after the death of founder president of pro-Maoist tribal outfit’s militant wing Sidhu Soren in an encounter, said a police officer.

Saraswati Mandi, a resident of Harambara village, was a senior squad member of Maoist leader Arjun’s squad, he said.
