Two Maoists arrested in West Bengal
November 22nd, 2010 - 9:06 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Nov 22 (IANS) Two Maoist guerrillas were arrested in West Bengal’s Purulia district Monday, police said.
“Squad members Somnath Mandi and Thakurdas Karmakar were arrested from Dhanchatani village,” Purulia superintendent of police Sunil Chowdhury said.
“Acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted, but we did not find any firearms in their possession,” he added.
The duo was involved in several cases, including murder, extortion and damaging government properties, Chowdhury told IANS.
Maoist rebels are active in three western districts of the state - West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura.
