- Raipur, Nov 5 (IANS) Police fought a two-hour gun battle with Maoist guerrillas in Chhattisgarh’s restive Bastar region Thursday and arrested two of the rebels.
The gunfight began in a forested pocket in Gangloor village, some 450 km south of Raipur, in Bijapur district when a search squad of District Force opened fire at a group of armed radicals who returned fire, police said.
“After about two hours we arrested two senior Maoist cadres. Blood stains0 indicate a few Maoists must have been either killed or injured,” Avinash Mohanty, district superintendent of police, Bijapur, told IANS over phone.
