Two LeT guerrillas killed in gunfight
July 23rd, 2011 - 8:57 pm ICT by IANSSrinagar, July 23 (IANS) Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) guerrillas, including a foreign national, were killed in a gunfight in Kupwara district in north Kashmir Saturday, an army official said.
Brig. K.J.S. Dhellon, commander of 7 Sector Rashtriya Rifles (RR), told reporters that troops of 21 RR surrounded Badarkhote village in Kupwara, 84 km from Srinagar, late Friday night after specific information about the presence of guerrillas there.
“The operation was suspended during the night and resumed this morning. Terrorists were holed up inside a shed attached to a residential house and were killed in the operation,” he said.
The dead included a wanted commander of LeT, Muslim Zarar, a foreign national, and his associate whose identity is being established, Brig. Dhellon said.
No collateral damage to civilian life or property occurred during the operation, the officer added.
