New Delhi, March 4 (IANS) Two people were killed and one person was critically injured when a speeding vehicle hit their motorbike in south Delhi, the police said Tuesday. The accident occurred around 11.00 p.m. Monday when an unidentified vehicle, reported to be a truck, hit the trio - identified as Harish, Sonu and Harith - near Andrews Gunj flyover in Defence Colony area and sped away.
The police said the victims, all said to be in their 20s, were taken to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where doctors declared Harish and Sonu brought dead. Harith’s condition was stated to be critical.
Harish was employed with a showroom in south Delhi, Sonu was an electrician and Harith is said to be a student.
According to the police, Harish was driving the motorbike, while the other two were riding pillion without wearing helmets.
“Harith’s condition was still critical Tuesday evening and doctors have declared him unfit for any statement,” a police official said.
The police are yet to trace the killer vehicle and arrest its driver.
In a hit-and-run case last month, 46-year old Kamla Devi was killed when an unidentified vehicle hit her near Sewa Nagar in the late hours of the night and sped away.
Devi died on the spot while her son sustained critical injuries.
Two constables - Dheerender and Jayveer Singh - were crushed to death Feb 8 when a speeding truck hit their motorbike in Gokulpuri area of north-east Delhi. The policemen were on night patrol.
