Two killed in Russia’s Black Sea resort blast

Moscow, Aug 7 (Xinhua) Two people were killed and four injured in an explosion on a beach in Russia’s Black Sea resort of Sochi Thursday, Russian news agencies reported. The explosive device went off at 10:25 Moscow time (0625 GMT) on the Loo beach in the Lazarevskoye district of Sochi, which will host the 2014 Winter Olympics, killing a 31 year-old man and a 22 year-old woman, the reports said.

“Four people received injuries of varying degrees and were rushed to hospital, no children were injured,” said Vladimir Markin, spokesman for the Investigation Committee of the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office.

“The beach is cordoned off, and no other explosives have been found,” he added.

According to earlier reports, people on the beach were evacuated, and investigators are working at the scene to establish the cause of the blast.
