Two killed in Haryana hospital firing, four cops suspended (Lead)
May 19th, 2011 - 5:31 pm ICT by IANSRohtak (Haryana), May 19 (IANS) A liquor contractor and a security guard were killed in a hospital’s emergency ward here when unidentified gunmen opened fire at them early Thursday, police said. Four policemen have been suspended for their inefficiency.
Tejveer Singh, 31, and Parveen Kumar, 35, were killed in the incident at the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) here, about 70 km from New Delhi. Besides, one person was also injured in the firing.
When the incident took place, a police control room (PCR) vehicle was parked right outside the emergency ward but police could not stop the accused from escaping the scene. Following this, four police officers have been suspended by the authorities concerned.
Police said the attackers came in a black Scorpio and opened fire at Parveen. While they were running away, PGIMS security guard Tejveer tried to stop them but he was also shot dead.
“Both of them died before making any statement. Doctors tried to provide them medical aid, but could not save them,” Station House Officer (SHO) Ramesh Kumar told IANS.
“Business enmity is the cause of this incident. Parveen was a liquor contractor and yesterday (Wednesday) night he was assaulted by members of some rival business group in Jind town. From there, he was brought to the PGIMS,” he added.
Meanwhile, police sources said that they have recovered the black Scorpio car, in which the accused had fled.
“We have also detained two people and their questioning is on. Right now, we cannot divulge any more details,” said a police official.
Seema, official spokesperson of PGIMS, said: “After this incident, hospital authorities called an emergency meeting. Resident Doctors Association has decided to give Rs.5 lakh compensation to the family of Tejveer.”
“This incident has happened due to the inefficiency of police and four cops have been suspended for their negligence,” she pointed out.
