Two killed in attack on Pakistan police station

Taliban Islamabad, Feb 24 (IANS) Two policemen were killed and six injured Friday when Taliban guerrillas stormed a police station in Pakistan’s Peshawar city, a media report said.

The brazen attack was carried out a day after a deadly car bomb killed over a dozen people and injured more than 20 in Peshawar.

Imtiaz Altraf, an official, said besides the two policemen, the two attackers were also killed in Friday’s incident. Police are searching and clearing the building.

“We have found body parts of the two attackers,” the official said.

Police and the militants exchanged fire for nearly an hour. The anti-terror Quick Response Force was called to help the police, reported Xinhua citing a TV report.

Sources, however, put the number of attackers at three.

The rebels, wearing suicide jackets, attacked police station Kotwali at Lahore Gate area of Peshawar at 7.30 a.m.

The attackers first hurled grenades and then opened fire at the police, which sparked exchange of heavy firing.

The police station is located in a thickly populated area and people remained indoors during the shooting. A girls school is also located near the police station building.
