Two killed as monorail slab collapses
July 1st, 2011 - 11:16 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, July 1 (IANS) Two people were killed and two others injured when a slab of the under-construction monorail collapsed here Friday evening, an official said.
The four victims were staffers of the agencies constructing the monorail for the Mumbai Metropolitan Development Authority (MMRDA).
The incident happened on the Jacob Circle-Chembur sector of the monorail. The injured have been admitted to Rajawadi Hospital at Ghatkopar in northeast Mumbai.
The state’s first 20-km long monorail is being constructed as a pilot project at a cost of over Rs.2,700 crore and the first phase is expected to be operational by the year-end.
