Two killed as CPI-M, Trinamool clash in Bengal
September 4th, 2011 - 10:59 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Sep 4 (IANS) Two people were killed in a clash Sunday between Trinamool Congress and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) activists over sowing of paddy on a plot of land in West Bengal?s South 24 Parganas district, police said.
Two others were also injured in the clash near the plot in Baruipurin. Firearms and sharp weapons were used in the incident, police sources said.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (Presidency Range) Siddhinath Gupta told IANS: ?Two persons have been killed. The clash had political overtones.?
The Trinamool claimed that both the deceased, who were shot, were its supporters. But there was no police confirmation of this.
The two injured have been admitted to a city hospital.
